COMFORT

by Joe Bromley

A sensitive new show for bereaved children and their families.  We explore grief with humour and energy to highlight the importance of talking openly and honestly with children about death.

"A great show - covered lots of the emotions we could really identify with"
Family, Child Bereavement UK event

Created for ages 5+

Running time 30 minutes plus optional post-show activities

Beanie is eight when her beloved mum dies in a hospice, leaving her with tangled memories and a carefully knitted blankie for comfort.  What do you do when someone you love so much has gone forever?  Beanie must navigate a new way of living, with friends, classmates, and grown-ups unsure of how to behave with her.

But then the blankie goes missing at school.  As Beanie's world unravels, can a tight-knit community help her deal with her grief?

There are also optional activities for afterwards, including creating a piece of patchwork art and making a pom-pom to take home or to add to our display.  We are looking to partner with grief networks to provide additional support.  Please get in touch if you'd like to be involved.

"Brilliant show, especially for younger children who need to understand more about grief and people experiencing it.  Thank you.  We felt that we are really not on our own"

"A great performance and I thought the pitch and tone were sensitively handled and spot on.  And of course the jokes were hilarious and added some needed light relief to a very painful subject"

"How moved I was.  I think it is positioned perfectly - real, compassionate, sensitive and yet with life, spirit and even humour in it.  I honestly feel children will respond beautifully to it"
